Jeffrey A. Porter is the Founder and owner of Porter & Associates, CPA, a local firm in Huntington, West Virginia which concentrates in the providing of tax planning and business advisory services for small to medium sized businesses and high net worth individuals.

Mr. Porter has been active in the AICPA for over thirty years, with prior service on the Board of Directors and its Governing Council. He was previously chair of the Tax Executive Committee and is currently serving on the PCPS Executive Committee. He was the 2016 recipient of the Arthur J. Dixon Memorial Award, the highest honor bestowed by the accounting profession in the area of taxation. On behalf of the AICPA, he has testified before U.S. House of Representatives Committee on the Judiciary-Subcommittee on Commercial and Administrative Law regarding the “Mobile Workforce State Income Tax Simplification Act of 2011”; the U.S. House of Representatives Subcommittee on Regulatory Reform regarding “Mobile Workforce State Income Tax Simplification Act of 2013”; the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Small Business-Subcommittee on Economic Growth, Tax and Capital Access on “Adding to the Uncertainty: Small Business’ Perspectives on the Tax Cliff"; the U.S. Senate Committee on Finance on “Tax Fraud, Tax ID Theft and Tax Reform: Moving Forward with Solutions”; and the U.S. Senate Committee on Small Business & Entrepreneurship on “Targeted Tax Reform: Solutions to relieve the tax compliance burden(s) for America’s small businesses”.

Mr. Porter is currently serving a three year term on the Internal Revenue Advisory Council (IRSAC).

He served on the Steering Committee for the AICPA National Tax Conference for twenty years and served as Chair of the Conference for over ten years. He is also a member of the West Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants.

Mr. Porter is a frequent lecturer and has taught tax related continuing education for a number of state CPA societies, local and national firms and the AICPA National Tax Conference.

Mr. Porter holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Marshall University and a Masters of Taxation from The University of Tulsa. He currently resides in Huntington, West Virginia where he is actively involved in many community related activities including: Past member-Board of Governors-Mountwest Community & Technical College; Past Treasurer of the Huntington Symphony Orchestra; past Chair of the United Methodist Foundation of WV Board of Trustees; Past President of the Marshall University Alumni Association; Past Chair of the West Virginia Lottery Commission; Past-Chair of the West Virginia Volunteers in Mission; and participating in and leading Mission teams to Nicaragua, Russia, Honduras, Dominican Republic, Cuba, Alaska and disaster recovery teams to Mississippi.

Jay is a CPA with Porter & Associates CPAs in Huntington, WV.  He has been a licensed CPA since 2014 and joined the firm in 2015. Jay concentrates on tax planning for small and medium size business clients and high net worth individuals and is comfortable providing a range of services to suit client needs.  

Jay has been active with the AICPA for over five years, currently serving as a member of the IRS Advocacy & Relations Committee and with previous service on the Individual and Self-Employed Technical Resource Panel. Through his position, he works with the AICPA to advocate on behalf of individual and self-employed tax payers.  As part of his work with the AICPA, he has been published in Tax Advisor magazine and has been interviewed by Yahoo Finance.  He finds his involvement with the AICPA particularly rewarding because of the larger perspective of the profession it provides beyond the Tri-State area.

Jay holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from The Ohio State University and a Masters of Accountancy from Marshall University.  He currently resides in Huntington, WV where he is actively involved in his church and trying to keep up with his toddler. When he is not working in the office, he enjoys spending time with his family, running the local trails, and cheering on the Buckeyes.
